Greetings, VT CAUS family!
Welcome to our latest edition of CAUS+effect, the online alumni newsletter for the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. It’s my great pleasure to update you on college and school activities as we continue to celebrate the legacy of our programs and look forward to their continued impact – in local communities and across the globe.
In this issue, you’ll learn about an exciting university initiative that allows CAUS students to gain hands-on experience through the design, construction, and renovation of Virginia Tech campus buildings. You can hear more about a new course that connects industrial designers with biomedical engineers to address the unmet needs of wounded veterans, and get a glimpse into the community-building connections made across continents through the Mandela Washington Fellows program. You’ll also meet Steven and Cathi House, two architecture alumni who continue to give back to the college through ongoing engagement and a commitment to improving educational experiences for students.
These stories are a celebration of the college’s historical and emerging strengths. They’re also a notable testament to our newly defined strategic priorities of smart design and construction, intelligent infrastructure, health design research, and educational innovation. Through concentrated efforts in these four areas, CAUS is claiming its role in preparing students to serve the needs of a changing society and environment.
With the launch of Boundless Impact, Virginia Tech’s most ambitious fundraising campaign to date, this direction for the college could not come at a better time. Just as the university is poised to become a major catalyst for innovation, CAUS is moving forward with its mission to create the next generation of leaders who are eager to tackle the world’s most complex challenges.
As an alumnus, your engagement is crucial to the college’s path forward. I encourage you to connect with CAUS and contribute as we build momentum for impactful change. The support of our alumni through giving, feedback, and ongoing involvement lays the groundwork for the future of our disciplines, here at Virginia Tech and beyond. Please consider making a gift today, or share your thoughts via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. As always, I look forward to connecting with you as we work together to make the college an enduring model of transformational student experiences, Ut Prosim, and Hokie pride.
